Fairmont The Palm Dubai Case Study

Overview

Fairmont Palm Dubai collaborated with Taka Solutions to conduct an Energy Performance Contract (EPC) aimed at identifying areas of high energy usage and waste. The audit revealed that the hotel’s kitchens presented a significant opportunity for energy savings. Consequently, they chose to install Intelli-Hood’s Demand Control Kitchen Ventilation (DCKV) controls due to their versatility and scalability. These controls could be retrofitted into existing hoods without the need for new hoods and ductwork, preserving UL listings.

Performance

The initial installation took place in 2019, and recent analyses have shown even greater savings than initially projected. Intelli-Hood was implemented in seven of the hotel’s kitchens, leading to a substantial reduction in operating costs. Initially, the hotel saw a 38% decrease in these costs, which has since grown to 53%, translating to annual savings of $103,299 in utility costs for the commercial kitchens.

After the installation of Intelli-Hood’s DCKV controls, Fairmont Palm Dubai’s kitchen achieved an average fan speed of 68%. This modulation of fan speeds not only improved overall fan performance but also significantly reduced energy waste, enhancing the kitchen’s operational efficiency. The reduced energy waste also minimized the kitchen’s carbon emission, thus improving the overall sustainability.

Conclusion

The DCKV controls have paid for themselves multiple times over through energy savings alone. Additionally, the installation of Intelli-Hood has not only decreased energy consumption but has also created a more comfortable and quieter environment for both staff and guests. This project underscores the effectiveness of Intelli-Hood in enhancing energy efficiency and operational cost savings while improving workplace conditions.
